Club La Costa resorts give kids a run for their money! 3rd September 2008
Many more British families are likely to be spurred to 'get fit' following the country's successes in the recent Beijing Olympics, and Club La Costa Resorts & Hotels could help prevent family members piling on the pounds on holidays.
Because even if kids are couch potatoes at home, or sit playing computer games all day, once they arrive at Club La Costa resorts, Team Marina - the company's on resort animators - is there to help them make the most of extensive facilities that include swimming pools, sports equipment, gyms and spas.
Mini club activities, big kid stuff and even adult oriented programmes available in some resorts, are designed to keep boredom at bay and get people participating. While daily programmes differ by resort and country, programmes for the Costa del Sol include activities as diverse as aerobics, yoga, Pilates, air rifle shooting, archery, aqua gym, and pool water sports that include boxing, basketball and volleyball for adults.
Meanwhile the Mini Club (for 4 to 11 year olds) has French bowls, beach games, water races, its own Olympic Games, as well as mini archery, football, basketball, disco and cabaret - with youngsters invited to rehearse and dance in the show.
Teenagers are tempted from their beds to join in a range of sports that even include table tennis and a sumo competition! Holidaymakers are also encouraged to reserve tennis courts and use games equipment in the Team Marina centre.
Daniel Ors, Club La Costa's Malaga-based entertainment manager, said: "In 2007, around 1100 kids participated in the Mini Club activities on the Costa, giving parents more free time to enjoy themselves by the pool, sightseeing, shopping or having quality time in the bars and restaurants.
"As well as staying active, the children meet new friends and our all day summer party is a fun day on the beach with plenty of games."
Team Marina comprises young people with previous experience of working with children, including student teachers. "As we have guests from many countries, it is important that they speak English and offer other languages," said Daniel.
Team Marina operates all year round but its biggest programmes are during the high summer season with activity changes for winter. The entertainments team can be found at Club La Costa resorts in Malaga, Tenerife and Portugal.
Club La Costa has more than 50,000 timeshare owners and a growing contingent of members who have bought freehold properties at its resorts.
The Times newspaper * once ran an article advocating the holiday home as a potential source of fitness fun, with on site sports facilities and lively entertainment, as well as the usual beach attractions.
The article featured a Club La Costa resort in Cornwall: Hustyns, and its freehold cottages, with opportunities to 'swim, hit the running track, play tennis and croquet and send the children to their own activity area".
Club La Costa has since expanded its on resort holiday homes arm, with new developments in progress for Spain, Tenerife and Turkey. Leaseback ensures owners receive a generous rental return, with six months or more still available for family use.
"Owning a Club La Costa holiday home means you can use the resort activities and equipment, including those organised by Team Marina. So there is no excuse for parents and children not to get fit or maintain fitness on holiday," said Mr Ors.
