Spain's fast track to woo buyers 7th March 2008
The pace of high-speed rail development in Spain, connecting Malaga with Madrid and even Barcelona in super fast time, could woo more property buyers and holidaymakers to the Costa del Sol.
Since January, AVE high speed trains have been whisking passengers from Madrid to Malaga and vice versa, covering the 660km journey in just 2hrs 30mins. In February the 300km/H (185mph) bullet train achieved a similar time from Madrid to Barcelona.
The speed of change means Spain is catching up with France and Japan and by 2010, the Spanish government claims, the country will have the most extensive high-speed rail network in the world.
For the Costa del Sol, it means Spanish families will now have plenty of opportunity to travel by train to the holiday playground of the south, as well as by air. The real possibility of a day out in the capital, will also add to Malaga's appeal to foreign holidaymakers.
Club La Costa Resorts & Hotels, a leading vacation ownership company with its headquarters on the Costa del Sol, has a significant percentage of Spanish owners among its more than 50,000 membership. These latest rail developments could lead to many more.
Estate agents and house sellers are hoping they too will benefit as more Spanish nationals from the north of the country opt for a holiday home in the south.
Paul Smith, director of CLC Estates, Club La Costa's freehold homes division, said the prospects for this part of Spain were very exciting, with modernisation not only of the rail network but also the building of a new airport terminal at Malaga international airport, which is due to open in Spring 2009 and will double the number of passengers capable of being processed to 9,000 per hour.
"The commitment here to progress is also good news for those looking to invest," he said.
CLC Estates is currently marketing luxury Club La Costa freehold homes on the Costa del Sol, with the benefit of a leaseback rental contract ensuring a return that should cover most mortgage repayments and even management fees.
Central to Club La Costa's expansion plans in this part of Spain is its flagship California Beach Hotel & Residences, with an on-site 7,000sqm commercial centre and one of Spain's three largest spas. Resort properties within the California Beach complex, which has established the company's signature style, have sold out in the past. A further release at its Santa Cruz Suites has just been made available.
